According to the search engine, which released its Top 50 search terms for the past year, the term "poker" is the Ace of Spades for 2008.
Poker was followed by Paris Hilton in second spot, YouTube in third, and rounding out the Top 5, Golf and Republican VP candidate, Sarah Palin.
According to a press release:
-Hilton garnered much attention this year, not for grainy pornographic footage but for her reality show "My New BFF,"
-Online video site YouTube's popularity has grown astronomically in the past few years, accounting for its standing in 2008,
-And with this being an election year in the United States, it's no surprise that Alaska Governor Palin's name was one that people were looking for.
As for the No. 1 term, poker seemed to draw a lot of searches based on the popularity of the World Poker Tour and television celebrity poker tournaments—it was the third year in a row that poker has taken the top honor on Lycos and it beat out Hilton by 5 percent.
