The chronicles
The site on which this hotel is situated was earlier occupied by the Bonanza Hotel and casino in the year 1963. This was even renamed as New Bonanza. But later on the construction of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino began, whose owner was Kirk Kerkorian. Opened in the year 1973, this was the largest hotel in the world during that period with nearly 2084 rooms.

The hotel of MGM when built set up a new standard for luxury and size for hotels in Las Vegas. This was considered as a major influence until the Mirage Hotel of Steve Wynn came up in 1980s. The theme of the hotel reflected the interest of its owner Kirk Kerkorian in movies. This was because Kirk was the owner of the MGM and the hotel was named so. Martin Stern Jr. was the architect who designed this hotel. There were many facilities and options for entertainment in this hotel. There was a huge shopping area and live jai alai betting too.
